The Foundling is a drama about a 14 year old girl called Wendy, who was abandoned by her parents, raised by dogs before finally been adopted into her uncle’s family. Although her canine upbringing makes it difficult for family members to truly accept her, Wendy slowly gains their trust and uncovers a different kind of abandonment present in modern families today.

About the ensemble
Established in 2003, as a “nomadic international theatre collaborative”, Burnt Mango Dance Theatre has created and performed original works in the United States, Poland, France and the UK. Last year, it produced “Concrete Jungle Berzerk!” (April, 2008), which sold out for all its performances at the Fringe Club, and (No)rwegian Wood (November, 2008), inspired by the Murakami novel of the same name. Their work veers between dream-logic narratives, movement inspired dramas, and - for this production - more text-based character work. Above all, the ensemble believes that theatre is an opportunity to “live in the present moment” on stage, and rehearses with techniques such as contact improvisation and Viewpoints.

Burnt Mango Theatre Productions is offering a special student packet for their upcoming drama production. This packet is designed for students interested or studying Theatre Arts, and includes group discounts and post-performance lecture-demonstrations.

For Burnt Mango’s last show in the Fringe Club (Concrete Jungle Berzerk!), students from Li Po Chun United World College, Chinese International School and Yew Chung International School had an opportunity not only to chat with the director and cast, but also try out a number of exercises the company used in the creation process. Students left with practical ideas that they could apply to their own productions, as well as insight into pursuing a career in the performing arts. Burnt Mango believes in the value of this dialogue and would like to invite your students to a similar forum for their upcoming show.
