Abandoned by her parents and raised by dogs, fourteen-year-old Wendy has been adopted into her uncle ’s family. Her canine upbringing makes it difficult for anyone to truly accept her, but it is her inability to comprehend human language which gains their trust. Slowly Wendy uncovers a different kind of abandonment in her new home, for it is a place of secrete frustrations, until an event makes her presence in the family become more crucial than ever.

About the ensemble

Established in 2003 as a “nomadic international theatre collaborative” Burnt Mango Dance Theatre has created and performed original works in the United States, Poland, France and the UK. Last year, it produced “Concrete Jungle Berzerk!” (April, 2008), which sold out for all its performances at the Fringe Club. Its next piece, "(No)rwegian Wood" was selected as part of the YY Theatre Green Power II festival for young directors at the Arts Center, and was inspired by a Murakami novel of the same name.

Burnt Mango's work veers between dream-logic narratives, movement inspired dramas, and - for this production - more text-based character work. Above all, the ensemble believes that theatre is an opportunity to “live in the present moment” on stage, and rehearses with techniques such as contact improvisation and Viewpoints.
