About the ensemble

Established in 2003, Burnt Mango Dance Theatre began as an “nomadic international theatre collaborative”, creating and performing original works such as Aftermath with Cocoa (winner of the Melvin B Troy Award for Choreography. 2003), Diamond Baby (2004) and Craig & Miriam (2006) in Philadelphia, Bytom, Paris and London.

In the August of 2006, Burnt Mango returned to Hong Kong . Its eclectic ensemble include former office cubicle workers, freelance theatre professionals and musicians. With next-to-no budget but a passion and dedication to theatre practice, the company stands testimony to the fact that it is possible to do what you love and somehow, make a living as well.

Norwegian Wood isn't about a forest at all.

A mistranslation by Mr Murakami opens up a common space for imagination.

What if there was a chance to encounter Murakami in this non-existent forest, and to drink beer with him while listening to "The Yellow Submarine"..? Inconcieveable. But if I could, I would ask him - as a entertainment reporter might - "How's Watanabe doing these days? How does is he coping, 40 years after Naoko's death? How many outlets does Midori's pornographic bookstore franchise have now? And Murakami, still listening to the Beatles from his iPod, might smile at me over the beer foam and answer, "Thank you. The beer's not bad at all." This is how I imagine a frank conversation with Mr Murakami might go.

Using Haruki Murakami's bestselling novel "Norwegian Wood" as a point of inspiration, here is a tale about how there is no wood in Norway.

note: Show is in Cantonese and Japanese (with Chinese subtitles)
